Rewilding

They wait for me-
The birds
Or at least that’s the story I’ve made up in my head.
I feel stress dissipate
With the sound of their welcome calls-
The warbler
The chickadee
The crow.
I feel alive with the welcome buzz
Of hummingbird chirps,
And The herons-
They perch on their water domains
Regal their stance.
I am home.
I used to feel like a visitor here
Till I learned to walk barefoot
And found the earth more forgiving
The creatures more accepting |
The canopy of leaf more sheltering
The ripple of wave more comforting
Than I had ever known elsewhere.
Awakened I return to my childhood wonder ,
Discarding what I thought was play
As a being awake to the spiritual awe of it all.
And once upon a time I was a part of this wild world -
When did growing up mean growing apart from these roots, these wings?
Yesterday I ran with the deer
Today I fly with the heron
Tomorrow I’ll will play with the hummingbirds
Because my wild soul innately knows
This is where I belong.
